With the S&S 124-inch motor being used, you need the hi-torque of the Spyke starter.
Install the starter and check for clearance here as well. The BDL EVO-900SF open
belt primary drive includes the starter pinion for both 1990-1993 and for 1994 and up,
so either will work. I just prefer the 1993 starter as it has a different gear ratio for
spinning the motor over.

I set the fender on the tire and found out it wouldn’t fit far enough forward to allow any
tire clearance at all, even with the tire moved back. Since many people have a set of
torches or at least have them available, I chose the simplest way to solve the
problem. With a Sharpie, mark where the frame tubes touch the fender and then
remove it.

Heat the fender on the bend where it’s marked with the torch and when it’s cherry hot, lay a piece of pipe on the bend and smack it with a hammer.

Don’t try this with one of those cheap, thin imitations so common on the market.

Do the same on the opposite side. Now you have a nice dimple that will allow the fender to slide forward in the frame giving the proper tire clearance.

Be sure to dimple enough to get a little frame to fender clearance as well. You don’t want the fender
touching the frame where it could rub off paint, but don’t dimple so much that the dimple hits the tire either.

Here you can see just the little bit of clearance that is necessary
between the fender and frame.
