Once the bracket fit nicely, I saw the coil mount didn’t appear to have
enough clearance to install a coil cover using the round oil tank. Had
I used a standard horseshoe tank, there probably would not have been
a problem. Paughco has both styles available. You decide which works
for you. Here is a classic reason to do the pre-assembly. Now remove
the oil tank and transmission.

Cut off the bracket.

Clean up the post with a grinder or file as necessary.
Next it’s time to mount the rear wheel and start on the rear fender.

Tape two pieces of hose to the
tire as shown to set up the
clearance. This is where I found
out I could not use a belt on the
rear, but with an S&S 124 cubic
inch motor, I didn’t really want to
anyway.
SAFETY FIRST!!!
I was once told by a tire manufacturer, that a tire can grow as much as 1” at 100 mph so don’t put it too close to the tire or you may burn off that expensive paint job, melt your tire and maybe end up wrecking your new toy and yourself. All of those custom bikes with the fenders on the tires are made to look at, not ride, at least not far or fast.
